Bournemouth: The Crab Restaurant

Bournemouth Seafood The Crab

While at the seaside, a seafood meal is a must! And of course, we got to check out a seafood restaurant during our quick getaway to Bournemouth. After asking on Instagram, you guys recommended us The Crab, and so we went!

The Crab is a lovely seafood restaurant steps away from Bournemouth beach and pier. The restaurant is part of the Park Central Hotel and boasts serving up the freshest and best quality seafood along the south coast.

We went for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant has an extremely bright setting, with plenty of natural light coming through its floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors. It has a simple and contemporary setting, giving off a casual but still elegant kind of vibe. As it’s a Saturday, we also managed to catch some live piano music at the restaurant – which is an absolute bonus!

Fish Soup (complimentary)

To start with, we received a complimentary little cup of Fish Soup. I’ve always loved a good fish soup. It was warming and savoury. You can taste out that several types of fish had been used to cook this. All in all, it was a decent one and even reminded me a little of a taste of Southern France!

Bournemouth Seafood The Crab

This is a grilled seafood platter in a nutshell, consisting half a lobster, crab claws, tiger prawns, baked scallops, market fish, fried oysters, and a pot of mussels in a cream sauce (served separately from the platter pictured). You also get to choose either garlic butter or chilli butter to serve with the seafood – and we picked chilli butter.

Out of all the seafood on the plate, our favourites were the crab and the mussels. The crab claws were incredibly meaty, tasted extremely fresh, and bursting with flavours at each bite.

As for the mussels, they were surprisingly meaty and delicious! It came at a much more generous portion than we expected – it could be a main course on its own if it were served with a large plate of fries.

The rest of the seafood platter was fairly decent. It’s definitely one that would satisfy your stomach and most certainly satisfied my seafood cravings.

Sides

We also ordered a couple of sides to go with the seafood platter, including the Triple Cooked Hand Cut Chips, Hand Cut Skin-On Fries, and the Tomato & Onion Salad (with Rosary Goat’s Cheese and Balsamic Dressing). To be fair, the two chips were pretty much the same. Maybe the hand-cut fries were slightly crispier, but the two were the same thing really. The salad was nice and decent too.

All in all, The Crab has lived up to you guys’ recommendation and we had a really lovely time there. There’s nothing to not love when the place serves up some fresh quality seafood, plus a lovely dining setting (live piano performance really makes a bonus!). With its close proximity to the beach and pier, it’s really convenient to take a romantic walk by the beach after the meal – we managed to catch a beautiful sunset!
