Located along Uxbridge Road at Shepherd’s Bush, this new burger place stood out among the small local businesses around the area. Opening its first branch near the Westfield shopping mall, Burgista Bros has certainly chosen its location wisely to set the business in momentum.
The interior and general design of the restaurant is fairly simplistic and classic. White tiles, red bricks, and wooden tables – simple but with good lighting and some music playing softly in the background, it effectively created a chilled and laid back atmosphere.
The menu is fairly straightforward – wings for starters; a couple options of burgers; a few sides; two extra main options; and then a Shakes flavor and drinks menu plus a little kids section. All their burgers are 5.5oz, seasoned with Maldon sea salt, and served on a brioche bun. Everything is halal and they’s also a Quorn vegetarian burger option for vegetarians.
Mexicali Spicy Burger
I have ordered a Mexicali Spicy Burger – a burger on crisp baby gem lettuce, heritage tomato, red onion and their own burger sauce, topped with sliced jalapeno chillies, smoky chilli cheese and chipotle mayonnaise.
To start with the burger – the beef patty, resting on the lettuce, is perfectly cooked to medium to medium well, with the smoky chilli cheese slice beautifully melted on top. The slight hint of spice from the cheese really brought out the flavors of the burger. The sliced jalapeno chillies and the chipotle mayonnaise added an extra kick of mild hotness, which rounded up the overall flavor and texture. The use of brioche burger buns is also a very smart idea, giving it a more polished edge to the burger.
Rosemary Salted Hand Cut Chips
One thing definitely worth highlighting is their rosemary salted hand cut chips. The chips are crispy on the outside and soft inside – still having a little texture to chew on instead of being just all hard crispy or plain soggy. The seasoning is absolutely on point and has brought it to a next level. It is aromatic with the right amount of saltiness to bring the potato flavor out. The flavors are very well-balanced without being overwhelming. It is an absolute perfect side dish to compliment the mains.
In addition, I had the BBQ wings as an extra dish. Each order has four big juicy wings. The wings were very saucy and nicely coated in the smokey & sweet BBQ sauce. The meat was cooked to a very tender texture as it tears off the bone with every bite.
Spicy Buffalo Wings
On a second return a few days later, I have also tried the Spicy Buffalo Wings. For these hot and spicy wings, I would have liked to have the wings nicely marinated for some time before cooking them. The wings smelled absolutely amazing but the flavor is mostly on the outside. The meat inside was still very succulent and juicy, but it just needed that little extra marinade.
Over the second visit, I also treated myself with a Honeycomb Milkshake. The milkshake carries this velvety rich creamy texture and possessed the natural sweetness of the honeycomb. It was made perfectly, with the right texture and not-too-heavy sweetness. There was nothing to not love about it and it had been such a gorgeous treat for the day.
All in all, I absolutely love this new burger place. It is a good quality gourmet-style fast food chain. The restaurant doesn’t lack customers walking in all the time but it was never properly packed. In general, it is more quiet and chilled. While some may think there’s not enough buzz around, I think it is a good place to enjoy a meal and chill instead of constantly thinking of rushing out of the restaurant due to overflowing customers. It has a very relaxing vibe because it serves exceptional quality of food but without the gourmet restaurant haughtiness, allowing you to enjoy good food under a laid back atmosphere.
Talking to one of the staffs, they are already expanding their chain with the second restaurant to be opened at Baker Street in 2016. I can see this burger chain becoming successful all across the city. It is starting up well and hopefully, we will see many more of this chain restaurant coming out in due time!
