Henna Hotel Istanbul

For our 10-day Istanbul trip, we decided to spend the first few days at Henna Hotel for sightseeing before moving to a different area for the rest of the trip. What made us pick Henna Hotel is the modern boutique-style interior it features and its close proximity to all the major sights in Sultanahmet. What really got us over the line is its gorgeous rooftop area, boasting views of Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, and the Golden Horn of the Bosphorus. If you fancy having one of those iconic Instagram photos of Istanbul, it’s a no brainer to pick Henna Hotel for your stay. In this post, we’ll be giving our honest review and rating of our stay at the hotel.

Hotel Review: Henna Hotel Istanbul

Date of stay: March 2022
Room type: Superior Double Room

Room & Amenities

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Henna Hotel is one of the more modern accommodations compared to the rest in the area, which is an important factor for us. The superior double room we stayed in is generally spacious and very comfortable. All rooms are air-conditioned and sound-proof, complete with a desk, kettle, minibar, safety deposit box, flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. Daily housekeeping is available to change bedding and provide clean towels. The bathroom is also well equipped with a hairdryer, bidet, loofah, hand soap, as well as shampoos, hair conditioners, body wash, and body lotion. The shower was great – the hot water was working perfectly and the water pressure was excellent. Free wifi is available throughout the entire hotel but the wifi speed is only okay from our experience.

Location

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The hotel is situated at the heart of Istanbul’s Sultanahmet area. Major sights such as Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, etc. are within only a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. For this particular reason, we are rating the hotel location highly. However, sightseeing aside, the Sultanahmet area isn’t that great of an area to stay in as it’s touristy and presents poor food/restaurant options. In other words, the hotel location is great only if you’re having a very short stay with the goal of sightseeing. If you’re looking for a longer trip or not interested in sightseeing, it’s not a location we’d recommend. Or you can do what we did, which is to stay for 2-3 nights in the area to get some of the sightseeing out of the way then move to a different area! Style & Facilities

Rating: 4 out of 5.

We’ve always particularly loved boutique-style hotels and it’s a bonus that, having only opened in April 2021, everything is new and modern at the Henna Hotel. I wouldn’t call it especially luxurious per se but it’s a solid comfortable 4-star hotel. As already mentioned, the rooftop terrace was the highlight of the hotel in our opinion and presents an incredible photo spot. To reach the rooftop, simply take the lift to the top floor and then take the stairs to the entrance.

There is also a small courtyard with a little fountain at the hotel but we only had a glimpse of it from the lobby and didn’t see much of it. If you want to see more of the courtyard, there is a courtyard room available for booking. I suppose what’s sort of missing is a swimming pool – a pool would’ve been really nice in the summer months. There are also no spa/wellness/fitness facilities at the hotel which are nice-to-have’s but not a dealbreaker.

Breakfast

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Breakfast is included in all bookings at Henna Hotel. It is served daily in the lobby & cafe areas but you can also choose to take your breakfast up to the rooftop area if you like. The small breakfast buffet offers a good selection of dishes, including Menemen, sujuk, Turkish cheeses & olives, Simit & bread, fresh fruits, cereals, etc. Additionally, you can order the likes of omelettes, scrambled eggs, etc. as well. Fresh coffees, teas, and hot drinks are also available to order. Overall, we were very satisfied with the breakfast, food & drinks at the hotel!

Service

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The service was great during our stay. Every staff we came across were incredibly friendly and always happy to help. Upon arrival, we were served iced pomegranate tea, which was lovely and set a really good impression to start our stay. Airport transfers are available at additional cost but this would be arranged with a third party company. Additionally, should you need help with tours & activities, the hotel can arrange them for you. We didn’t find it necessary though as Istanbul is quite easy to navigate.

Value for Money

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Overall, our stay at Henna Hotel has been of great value for money. Especially with the tendency of overpriced and dated accommodations in the area, the hotel is an excellent pick for its price. The price of our 3-night stay was about £214.
