Easy No-Alcohol Tiramisu Recipe

Featuring beautifully whipped mascarpone cream layers with a little kick of coffee, Tiramisu is undeniably one of my top favourite desserts. If only more tiramisu at restaurants and cafes were non-alcoholic, I would definitely be eating all my weight in it! But thankfully, a tiramisu is actually very easy to make at home. This simple no-alcohol Tiramisu recipe uses just whipped cream, mascarpone cheese, coffee, sugar, vanilla extract, ladyfingers, and cocoa powder. Who needs to go out for desserts when you can quickly whip up this easy Tiramisu recipe without alcohol at home!?

What is a Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a popular no-bake dessert originating from Italy. It uses Savoiardi ladyfingers soaked in coffee to create the sponge cake layer, topped with a whipped mascarpone cream layer, and dusted with cocoa powder. Although the original Tiramisu doesn’t contain alcohol, a lot of tiramisu today contains Marsala wine or rum.

How to make Tiramisu without alcohol

Ingredients You Need to Make a Halal Tiramisu

  • Lady Fingers/Sponge Fingers – for the sponge layer, typically Savoiardi Lady Fingers
  • Coffee – for the lady fingers/sponge fingers to create the sponge
  • Mascarpone Cheese, Heavy Cream, Sugar, Vanilla Extract – for making the creamy layer
  • Cocoa Powder – for dusting on top

Recipe Notes & Tips

  • Lady Fingers are light sponge biscuits that are shaped like thick fingers. They are very crispy, but once dipped in liquid, they turn into a spongy, cake-like texture. Savoiardi Lady Fingers are the traditional brand/type used in most Tiramisu recipes. But panic not, if you can’t find them at your local supermarket. You can use Sponge Fingers, which is more common in the UK.
  • For the best texture, dip the lady finger biscuit into the coffee and do not fully soak it. The biscuit gets soggy quickly if fully soaked and struggles to hold up its shape.
  • This Tiramisu recipe is suitable for making ahead of time. The Tiramisu lasts in the fridge for 3-4 days when stored covered or in an airtight container. The flavours may start to deteriorate after the 4-day mark.

Ingredients

  • 175 g Sponge Fingers / Lady Fingers
  • 300 ml Double Cream
  • 250 g Mascarpone Cheese
  • 150 g White Sugar
  • ½ tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Coffee cooled down
  • Cocoa Powder for dusting & decoration

Instructions

  • Whisk Double Cream and Sugar until stiffened.
  • Fold in Mascarpone Cheese. Then add in Vanilla Extract.
  • Dip the Sponge Fingers / Lady Fingers into the cooled-down Coffee (not soaked) and layer them onto the bottom of the cake tin.
  • Once the cake tin is fully layered with the dipped Lady Fingers, top it with the cream mixture. Repeat until the layers fill up your tin.
  • Put into the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

  • Savoiardi Lady Fingers are the most common biscuit used for making Tiramisu. If you can’t find them, especially in the UK, you can use Sponge Fingers instead.
  • Dip the lady/sponge fingers into the coffee but do not allow it to soak in it. A quick dip is enough for the biscuit to absorb the liquid and transform into a sponge cake-like texture. Fully soaking it will result in a soggy texture and it won’t hold its shape.
