What’s better than a classic tuna melt sandwich? A peri peri tuna melt air fryer cheese bagel! This recipe is especially handy when you only have 5 minutes to whip up a bite. Perfectly toasted bagel piled with tuna-mayo mix with a spike of peri peri sauce and a cheesy golden top – what’s there not to love about this, right? Other than a mild hint of spice, the peri peri also adds a touch of tangy goodness to make this bagel sandwich even more irresistible.
A lot of the basics of the recipe are similar to my Ole & Steen-inspired Jalapeno Tuna Melt recipe, but with a little more crunch, texture, and piquant flavours from the peri peri sauce. Additionally, this one’s got the magic touch of an air fryer, which makes everything and anything better!
How to make Peri Peri Tuna Melt Cheese Bagel with an Air Fryer
Ingredients You Need
- Bagels
- Tinned Tuna – preferably oil-packed but water-packed tones are just fine
- White Onions – add a nice crunch & texture to the tuna mix
- Jalapenos (optional) – fresh/pickled
- Peri peri sauce – Nandos medium/hot
- Mayo –
- Cheese – I usually use cheddar or a mix of cheddar & mozzarella
- Salt & Black Pepper – to taste
Recipe Notes
- Oil-packed vs brine-packed tinned tuna. You can use either one to make this tuna melt sandwich. I personally like to use oil-packed tuna because they tend to be meatier and richer in flavour.
- You may replace the peri peri sauce with another hot sauce of your choice. Please do play around with the amount to add to the tuna according to your own taste.
