Where to Stay in Verona Italy

Many may only see Verona as a day trip destination. However, I beg to differ. Verona is a historical city that’s worth spending overnight to truly experience its romantic charm. There may not be many big international hotel brands in Verona, but there are certainly a couple of charming boutique hotels and plenty of holiday apartments available. In terms of areas to stay in Verona, the historical centre is the best, in our opinion. This is because that’s where all the main sights are located, and it’s the best place to immerse yourself in the romanticism of the city. Alternatively, for a more local vibe, you can opt to stay in the Veronetto area just across the bridge or near Castel San Pietro. Either way, Verona is a small & compact city, so either side of the river doesn’t matter too much. Everything and everywhere is very much walkable.

Best Hotels to Stay in Verona

Hotel Indigo Verona – Grand Hotel des Arts (££)

Our first pick of hotels in Verona ought to be Hotel Indigo Verona Grand Hotel des Arts. The hotel is conveniently located midway between the Verona Arena and Porta Nuova station and is well within walking distance of every sight. Once home to Austrian nobility, the hotel has retained many antique furniture and its Art Nouveau style decor, complemented by contemporary paintings and modern furnishings. There is no better place for a trendy, artsy and tasteful stay in Verona than this!

Relais Balcone di Giulietta (££)

Juliet’s Balcony is one of the most popular sights in Verona. Personally, as mentioned in my Verona Italy Travel Guide, I don’t think it’s particularly worth paying & bracing the long queues just to get to the balcony. However, if you’d really like to have your Romeo & Juliet moment, you can choose to stay at the Relais Balcone di Giulietta instead, which is housed inside the courtyard of Juliet’s House. Not only is this intimate boutique hotel situated right next to Juliet’s House, but it also offers private access to Juliet’s Balcony and courtyard after hours. Yes, this means you can enjoy the full charms of the place crowd-free after the gates to tourists are closed!

Don’t let the original medieval facade fool you. Each room oozes history, but they are all well-equipped with modern amenities and comfortable furnishings. As long as you don’t mind the tourist crowds during the day, it’s a great place to stay.

Relais Colle San Pietro (££)

Relais Colle San Pietro is situated just beneath the famous Castel San Pietro, which is known to have the best and most romantic views of Verona. It is located just around the funicular station to take you up the hill to enjoy those spectacular views at any time. The bread & breakfast boasts breathtaking views over Ponte Pietra and the historic city centre, so make sure you request a balcony to make the most out of it. Compared to other options within the historic centre mentioned above, they may not have the most modern amenities, but it is still a charming place to stay.

VISTA Verona (££££)

VISTA Verona is the only 5-star hotel in Verona’s city centre, and it seamlessly blends modern luxury with classic Italian charm. Expect opulent bedrooms and decadent marble-floored bathrooms, and the hotel is completed with an excellent spa and wellness centre, sauna, fitness centre, an indoor swimming pool, terrace, restaurant, etc.

NH Collection Palazzo Verona (£££)

The Palazzo Verona Hotel is part of the NH Collection and a centrally located boutique hotel in the historical centre. Rooms are elegantly set up, featuring pastel-coloured walls and classical decor. Some rooms even feature a spa bath and a separate living room.
