Best Areas to Stay in Lisbon
On both my visits to Lisbon, I stayed near Rossio station in the Baixa area as it’s super central and convenient for exploring the city. Most sights are conveniently walkable from there, and you’ve got Rossio station at your corner for a day trip to Sintra.
But, in our opinion, Bairro Alto & Chiado are the real heart & pulse of the city. For all the trendy spots, whether for restaurants or shopping, or luxury experiences, these are the areas to be. Bairro Alto/Chiado and Baixa are just next to each other, and they make up the most central areas to stay in Lisbon.
Alternatively, other areas you can consider are Alfama and Cais do Sodre. Alfama is full of historic charm and culture, hilly but romantic. Whereas Cais do Sodre is a hip riverside area, known for some great trendy restaurants & bars. Both are still considered central but may require more walking.
