Shake Shack has become an unmissable food stop in New York. It’s amazing to see how it started from a humble food cart and now it has turned into this global sensation. They have first set its foot in London in 2015 and have been expanding all across the city ever since.
For the longest time, we have been limited to Shake Shack’s vegetarian mushroom burger since they didn’t serve halal meats befpre. But I’ve come bearing great news here because it’s been announced that all Shake Shack branches in the UK now serves halal chicken!
Chick N’ Shack
The Chick N’ Shack burger involves crispy chicken breast with lettuce, pickles and buttermilk herb mayo. The chicken burger did not disappoint. That gorgeous golden coating was crispy and enveloped this succulent piece of chicken. The potato rolls are soft and fluffy, which fit really well with the chicken. The buttermilk herb mayo adds an amazing tease of flavour as well. Nevertheless, I personally would like to see a bit more seasoning on the chicken as well as some cheese to add more layers of texture to the burger.
Cheese Fries
The signature combo for Shake Shack is the burger accompanied by their Cheese Fries! They use crinkle-cut fries that are fried to a gorgeous golden colour, and it’s topped with a blend of cheddar and American cheese sauce. I remember myself not really a fan of their fries before but then a burger without fries is not a complete meal. I gave this a second chance and was glad to find it much better. My main problem last time was the fries being soggy. This time around, thankfully, was perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The cheese sauce was seasoned better than I remember as well. All in all, it was quite a delight to enjoy.
Milkshakes
I had the Black & White milkshake, which is a mix of vanilla and chocolate milkshake. The milkshake was really thick and rich. That creamy and velvety texture offers such a satisfying and indulging sensation. If the burger isn’t enough for you, this will fill you up.
In summary…
…it’s certainly great news that there’s now a chicken option to get at Shake Shack. However, I don’t think it’s something to get super crazy for. It’s decent but not outstandingly wowing. With all these burger joints popping up all over the globe, I feel that it’s harder now for Shake Shack to claim as the king of burgers. It’s still undeniably good but there are now better ones popping up and joining the competition. Moreover, they don’t actually have many chicken burger options on the menu so it’s not like it opened a floodgate of options.
Shake Shack win in terms of name, but it needs an extra push in order to truly stand out from the crowd nowadays. Still worth a try though!
