Halal tacos, or halal Mexican food overall, are on the rise in London. The city has certainly come a long way. In my opinion, the birria taco hype was definitely what really set things off. It’s been a long-awaited time from having hardly any halal options for Mexican food to now having several options around town! In this article, I’ve rounded up some of the best-known spots that serve halal tacos in London. If you like Mexican tacos, you’d definitely want to save/bookmark this one!
Where to Find Halal Tacos in London
As per everything on this blog, please always double-check the halal status with the restaurant.
Coba Mexicana
If you are looking for an authentic taste of fully halal Mexican tacos, look no further than Coba Mexicana. Everything is freshly made from scratch daily, with a contemporary & creative flair to traditional Mexican tacos. From Taqueria Tacos to Birria Tacos, you’d be spoiled for options.
Dos Mas Tacos
The word out there is that Dos Mas Tacos make some of the best tacos in London. Find them at the vibrant Spitalfields Market and enjoy the likes of birria, chicken adobo, and more. The tacos are obviously the highlight but, if you have the stomach space, check out their burritos and rice bowls as well!
Birria Taco
They’re one of the first ones who started it all with the halal birria tacos hype in London. Fast forward to now, Birria Taco has found its permanent site at Kensal Rise, serving delicious birria tacos as well as birria ramen, etc.
Ooo Burritos
Tucked inside Medz Corner on High Street Kensington is Ooo Burritos, one of our favourite go-to halal taco spots. The lamb birria tacos are the one to go for and they also do birria pizza, burritos, and more!
Meathead Mexican
There is no doubt that Meathead Mexican is one of the most popular halal food stalls in Camden Market and they are one of the early ones driving that birria tacos wave. There are 3 options on the menu, including the 5-hour slow-cooked beef, chipotle chicken, and achiote-spiced lamb. You will always find a long queue, so visit during a quiet day off if possible!
Hola Guacamole
Hola Guacamole is all about “savouring the essence of Mexico in London”, boasting passionately crafted Mexican street food made with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces. Tacos aside, they also serve burritos, fajitas, nachos, quesadilla, etc. You can find them at various locations in London, including Wembley Park, the City of London, etc.
Mexa (at Arcade Food Hall Battersea)
Mexa is a spin-off brand from the popular Sonora Taqueria opening at the Battersea Arcade Food Hall, and its menu is all about tacos, quesadillas, and mariscos. We tried their lamb birria quesadilla but felt like something was amiss.
DF Tacos
DF Tacos is a self-serving sister restaurant from the high street chain, Wahaca. They are now serving halal chicken across all branches and make a decent no-fuss lunch spot should you be fancying some tacos. During our visit, we also enjoyed their rice bowl, which is worth checking out!
MXO London
MXO is an all-day Mexican-inspired restaurant & Agave bar and one of the very few halal-friendly Mexican restaurants in London. Running an extensive menu with a small-plate concept, you get to sample a wide range of dishes which, of course, includes tacos!
Tarcos Mexico
Despite only running on the weekends for collection, Tarcos Mexico has gained a fair bit of popularity among locals. It is run by a Mexican, so you know you’re getting the real deal of authentic Mexican flavours.
Burger & Beyond Soho
Yes, they are a burger joint, not a taqueria. However, Burger & Beyond does have a few tacos available on its menu in the starters section. We tried the K-Pop Chicken Taco at the Soho branch (the only branch serving halal at the moment) and were delighted with how good it was!
Tortilla UK
If you are looking for something fast & easy, Tortilla is always a convenient pick. With so many branches across London and beyond, it’s an easy & no-fuss spot to go to when you fancy a bite. Their burritos will always be my preference but should you be in the mood for tacos, they have them on the menu as well.
